The Bachelor of Science in Perfusion Technology is a 3-year undergraduate degree (often followed by a 6-12 month internship) that prepares students to become perfusion technologists, key members of cardiac surgery teams. The course focuses on human anatomy and physiology, particularly the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, along with specialized training in extracorporeal circulation.
Perfusion technologists are responsible for operating the heart-lung machine and monitoring vital signs during open-heart surgeries, transplants, and other critical procedures. Students are trained to manage blood gases, oxygen levels, body temperature, and circulation in patients undergoing surgery.
The program includes both theoretical studies and hands-on clinical practice, allowing students to gain real-world experience in operating theaters and ICUs. Graduates are qualified to work in hospitals, surgical units, and emergency care centers, with strong demand for their expertise both in India and internationally.
